North Bend, Ore. – ORCA Communications will help upgrade physical security at Schriever Air Force Base under a federal contract awarded today.
For this sole source 8(a) project ORCA will run low voltage signal wire and install three pieces of equipment dedicated to physical security at the base near Colorado Springs, Colo. ORCA will subcontract a portion of the project, programming of an Intrusion Detection System, to American Automation, a Woman/Native American-owned small business located in Denver.
According to ORCA President Karl Kennedy, providing information and communication technology (ICT) support for the base is a growth opportunity for the company.
“This base maintains a strong space operations component that manages many classified missions,” Kennedy said. “Although this is a relatively small contract, working in this environment will provide a wealth of experience for our team.”
Kennedy said ORCA also will benefit from working with American Automation, a graduate of the SBA 8(a) Business Development Program and a company with security clearances. “Our operations and expertise complement each other,” Kennedy said. “I am sure there will be many opportunities to work together on future projects.”
