Doing
business with tribal entities presents unique opportunities
and advantages. We believe
CEDCO has more to offer than most economic entities.
In addition to being located on a deep water port in
the Pacific Rim our tribal land is located in an economically
sound region and boasts a richly diverse and enterprising
community.
Understanding a Tribal Corporation
A Tribal Corporation is established
not under state or Federal law, but under the Tribe's
auspices as a sovereign nation. This means that Tribal
corporations are, effectively, government entities, but
with private flexibility. Tribes are eligible for government
grants and other programs, yet retain the size and decision
making ability of a small corporation.
Tribal status also
confers other advantages that
can enhance business development
efforts:
- Regulatory
flexibility - On trust land, tribes have autonomy
to make decisions outside of State, County, and City
government rules.
- Property tax
exemption - On trust land, tribes are not subject
to property taxes unless agreed upon with service providers.
- Indian Preference -
In certain government contracts, tribes have Small Business
Administration set-asides.
- No Permitting
cost - On trust land, most development activities
are exempt from State Permitting Requirements.
- Employment
tax credits - Non-tribal businesses may receive
tax credits for hiring tribal members
